| Grace Lutheran Church has a long tradition of social activism and we take seriously our call to work for justice, peace and equity in our world, in accordance with Christ's call that we love one another, for by love we will be known as followers of Christ. In 2001 we voted to become a Reconciling in Christ church (the first Lutheran church in upstate New York to do so), intentionally welcoming of persons of all sexual orientations. Grace Lutheran Church is a lead church within 10 cooperating Lutheran churches sponsoring a Habitat-Thrivent (Lutheran Insurance Company) house builds. Houses have been renewed on Schenectady Street (2007) and Coniston Street (2008). Grace members provide the grant application, organization of the volunteers and financial leadership. Grace is a covenant church with Bread for the World, a Washington, DC advocacy group promoting legislation for hunger relief internationally and nationally. Letters and phone calls encourage passage of legislation reducing world and US hunger. For anyone seeking opportunities to make a difference in their life and in our world, Grace offers a variety of social action opportunities. |
