Adult Forum will continue The Teaching Company’s Course on

“The Old Testament”

At 9:30 am each Sunday morning, the Adult Forum will continue to explore the history, literature, and religion of ancient Israel and early Judaism as it is presented in the collection of texts called the Old Testament, the Hebrew Bible, and the Tanakh.  Each Sunday will begin with a half-hour videotaped lecture by Professor Amy-Jill Levine, a professor of biblical studies at Vanderbilt University Divinity School.  In December the lectures will move into the second part of the Tanakh (the Hebrew Bible), the Nevi’im (Prophets), beginning with the first volume, the Book of Joshua. In one lecture, for example, Professor Levine will examine three major explanations for Israel’s presence in Canaan:  conquest, immigration, and internal revolt. No prior knowledge of the Bible is required.  All are welcome!
