Gary Wills’ book, What Paul
Meant. The follow-up book to What
Jesus Meant, which we read in the Adult Forum last winter, What
Paul Meant opens a window on the early church and helps the
faithful of today understand what it meant to be the first
Christians in mission.
For Gary Wills,
discovering and enunciating meaning has been a lifetime’s vocation
and craft. In his earlier years he studied philosophy with the
Jesuits, considered the priesthood, became a classics scholar and
then began his journalism career writing for William F. Buckley’s National
Review. He wrote a
syndicated newspaper column, “The Outrider” for thirty years.
